Returning Players
Players who were registered with the KGHA for the 2009/10 season will have a spot on a team for the 2010/11 season providing they register before midnight May 14, 2010, and we field a team at your age level. Returning players who do NOT register by midnight May 14, 2010, will lose their assurance of placement for the 2009/10 season. Please note that the KGHA will register Intermediate teams based on the number of returning and new players, as well as ice availability for this age group, all of which will not be known until August 2010.
New Players
Players who were not registered with the KGHA in the 2009/10 season are considered new players and will be accepted into the KGHA to the extent we have spaces available for the age group that you are registering for. We emphasize that your greatest assurance of a spot is to register as early as possible. New players who are trying out for competitive teams and do not make the team are not assured of a spot in KGHA house teams over veteran players. New players MUST submit 2 copies of a proof of age document, such as a birth certificate, along with their payment.
Registration Fees
Only online registration and credit card payment are accepted. Exceptional circumstances will have to contact the registrar/treasurer and arrange to meet at the KGHA office. All deadlines and priority assignments will still apply.

5. Open Tryouts
Any non veteran KGHA player who is interested in the Spring Tier I tryouts for OSWH Intermediate AA, OSWH Midget AA, OSWH Bantam AA or Rangers Bantam AA only, do not have to complete a full registration. However if you are a new KGHA District player (or a player from an area that does not offer equivalent Tiers of hockey to our other competitive teams) you are encouraged to complete a full registration, if your intent is to remain with the KGHA should you not make the AA team. Please contact the Registrar with any questions.
Those players not completing the full registration may sign up for the tryout in person on the day of the first tryout. All required documentation (2 copies of proof of age, 2 copies of PTS or Release and tryout form) must be presented along with the applicable tryout fee. The registration for imports will commence 1.5 hours prior to the first tryout time, to be posted on the website. No player will be allowed on to the ice unless all documentation and fees are in order. We would, however, very much appreciate you emailing us of your intention to tryout so we can plan for tryout numbers.
For OSWHC Int AA, Midget AA and Bantam AA tryouts please email us at oswhctryouts@kgha.ca. . The tryout fee for imports is $100 for OSWH teams. If you are only trying out for Int AA and are a 1992 birth year, the tryout fee is $60 - click here for Tryout Form.
For OSWHC Bantam AA tryouts please email us at oswhctryouts@kgha.ca. . The tryout fee for imports is $100 for Bantam Spring tryouts click here for Tryout Form.

6. Permission to Skate / Releases
Permissions to skate with another Association are being granted for summer camps and similar events. If a player wishes to try out for another association, they may be granted a release. For more details, see Policy.
7. Definitions
KGHA District – City of Kanata and the townships of West Carleton and Goulbourn – as they were defined immediately before amalgamation into the City of Ottawa.
KGHA Veteran Player – A player of the KGHA District that was registered with the KGHA during the previous season, or a non-KGHA District Player that has been a member in the KGHA for all of the previous two seasons.
Registered Player – a registered player is one who was registered and played with the KGHA in the 2008/09 season and registered for the 2010/11 season before May 14, 2010 (i.e. their completed registration form and payment were received by the KGHA registrar on or before May 14, 2010).
FAQ
Q. Can new registrants tryout for competitive teams?
A. New registrants that are within the KGHA district may proceed through tryout tiers, however, they are not guaranteed a House spot over a Veteran player – that determination would be based on wait list after the Veterans are provided with a team spot. Again, the greatest assurance of a spot is to register as early as possible.
Q. Does KGHA have open tryouts?
A. All Ottawa Senators Women’s Hockey Club teams and the Bantam AA Ranger teams’ tryouts are open to non KGHA players.
Q. Does KGHA have walk-on tryouts.
A. For our spring Ottawa Senators Women’s Hockey Club, Midget AA and Bantam AA tryouts there is an opportunity to register for these tryouts the day of first tryout. However, all required documentation must be presented and fees paid prior to being allowed on the ice for tryouts. For late-summer tryouts, the KGHA does not offer walk-on opportunities - those tryouts are only open to players that have registered with the KGHA by August 13.
Q. Does KGHA allow imports?
A. The Ottawa Senators Women’s Hockey Club tryouts are “open” with no residency restrictions. Bantam AA Rangers are open tryouts but within strict limits, up to 4 players (forwards and/or defense) from areas that already offer AA programs, (e.g. Nepean, Gloucester, Kingston, Cornwall …) may be considered for a position on this team, however goaltending positions are “open” tryouts. They must register as outlined in note 5 above.
Q. What about imports at other levels and tiers?
A. Generally no, but at other competitive levels and at house league, special consideration may be given on an individual basis, and also for an individual team. As an example, if a player from outside the Kanata District does not have the opportunity in their own Association to play at or above the highest level we offer, and we are the nearest Association to their home, they may make application for registration with special consideration. Further, if the case is made that a specific team has specific needs that cannot be met from within, such as the need for a goalie of AA calibre, the door may be opened to meet that need. We emphasize that these are case-by-case situations, which will be responded to after a formal request has been made to the Executive via the Registrar by email to registrar@kgha.ca .
Q. What are the restrictions on tryouts for non-district players trying out at Tier 1?
A. If the player is not selected for the Tier 1 team they are not eligible to tryout for a lower tier team.
Q. What if I move out of the Kanata District, but want to continue playing here?
A. Providing you have played in the KGHA for the two previous seasons, you have the status and registration privileges of returning players from the Kanata District.
Q. Can I obtain a PTS to tryout for a team with another association?
A. No, but you can apply for a Release.
Q. What are the conditions of Release?
A. Once released, the earliest you may make application to return to the KGHA will be one year from the date of the release. If you believe you may want to return to the KGHA the following season, you might give consideration to making your decision to leave as early as possible, as your return registration date will determine your wait list priority, and whether or not you are eligible to participate in Tier I tryouts.
Q. Why offer a Release and not a PTS? Why a one year penalty?
A. Along with many other associations, we are focused on putting an end to the practice of team shopping, and the tremendous organizational demands and costs associated with the activities of a few. We wish to emphasize that the KGHA is a not-for-profit volunteer operated organization, which has decided that the costs and risks associated with this activity should be moved from the already over taxed coach and Executive volunteers of our Association, to the players/parents involved in the activity.
Q. Why spring registration?
A. Spring registration offers the association the ability to give early confirmation to returning players and new registrants on the wait list. This also facilitates organization of numbers of teams and early identification and potential action on issues, for examples, goalie shortages. It also eases the heavy administrative load prior to summer vacation and the busy pre-season activities in July through September.
Q. Why only online credit card registration?
A. KGHA is the largest female hockey association east of Toronto and growing every year. Some of the burden on administration of manual processes was alleviated with the introduction of online registration and online payment. As well, it provides the administration with the mechanisms to reconcile payments and subsequently confirm registration numbers much more quickly.
If you have any questions, please email the KGHA Registrar.
