We are proud to recognize David Halstead with this year’s Gilhooly Volunteer Recognition Award for his outstanding dedication to our hockey community.
A lifelong volunteer, David began helping on the ice as a teenager—and he hasn’t stopped since. Since joining our association in 2017, he has been a cornerstone of our house league coaching team, consistently serving as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Trainer on three teams each season.

But David’s contributions go far beyond the bench. He’s always the first to step up—whether it's supporting new coaches, helping with sort outs, pitching in for the First Shift Program, or covering benches when another coach can’t be there. This past season, he even supported a team without a goalie by driving his daughter to their games and practices—ensuring they were well supported in nets, all while continuing to lead and support his own teams.

His commitment to player safety is unmatched. Known as the “Helmet Master,” David ensures every helmet is properly fitted and every player is safe. He’s prepared, dependable, and brings a positive attitude and warm smile to everything he does.

Even when unforeseen circumstances forced him to step back from coaching for a season, David continued to support the community—mentoring a new coach to ensure the team thrived. That coach summed it up best:

“Every new coach needs a David Halstead.”

David embodies the true spirit of volunteerism—passionate, selfless, and always willing to lend a hand. Thank you, David, for being such an inspiring and valued part of our hockey family. 💙🏒👏
